Simple High Protein Breakfast Recipes

We’ve all heard it before – breakfast is the most important meal of the day right?

Honestly, I’m sure plenty of people would argue that’s up for debate (intermittent fasters I’m looking at you!) but to me, a good breakfast is integral to setting me up for the day ahead and has become an essential part of my morning routine.

I’m a creature of habit so here are a few favourite recipes that I make on repeat to start the day

Apple Cinnamon Protein Oatmeal

This one is a real cosy favourite in the autumn and winter months. Full of fibre and slow release carbs it is a quick and easy hot breakfast to warm you up on those cold winter mornings.

Ingredients

  • 1 Apple (occasionally I’ll have 2 if I want to add volume and fibre without lots of additional calories
  • 1 tsp brown sugar (or sweetener of choice)
  • 50g rolled oats (you can use whatever oats you like but I find rolled oats are a great balance in getting a creamy oatmeal with slow release energy)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (if you don’t like to use protein powder you can omit it and adjust the amount of water required
  • Cinnamon to taste
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups water (you may need to adjust depending on oats and protein powder consistency

1. Chop your apple and add to pan with cinnamon, sweetener and salt and a splash of water.

2. Bring to medium heat and lightly sauté for 1 minute. Add 1 cup of water and oats.

3. Cook gently until oats soften and absorb liquid.

4. Take off heat and stir in protein powder

5. Add remaining water until creamy consistency achieved

High Protein Yoghurt Bowl

This is one of the quickest ways to start the day off in a healthy way!

Ingredients

  • 200g greek or skyr yoghurt (this is a great high protein base and you can go full, low or 0% fat depending on your preference. For a vegan alternative soy yoghurt would be a good option)
  • Berries (any berries will do, frozen or fresh!)
  • A small portion of granola
  • A sprinkle of chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax (pick 1 or use all 3 for some extra fibre, protein and healthy omega 3’s)

Add everything to a bowl and enjoy!

High Protein Fritatta

For those who prefer something savoury a frittata is really versatile and can be a great way to get started on your vegetables for the day. The base ingredients for this one are easy to prep in advance and could form part of your prep if you are following our 60-Minute Sunday Reset meal prep guide

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • Liquid egg whites (a great way to add protein without lots of extra calories. Or add another egg if you like!)
  • Tsp of oil
  • 2 kinds of vegetables – I find pepper, tomato or spinach work well but use whatever you have or like best
  • A protein source. Chicken, cut up sausages, bacon, tofu all work. Experiment to see what you like best
  • A little grated cheese or crumble of feta
  1. Cook your protein source first if needed.
  2. Chop your protein and veg into small pieces
  3. Add oil to a frying pan and heat
  4. Add eggs, protein and veg and allow to cook through until eggs are set and bottom is golden
  5. If using cheese sprinkle on top and pop under the grill for a minute to melt and brown the top

All these meals can be made quickly and are filled with high protein, satiating ingredients that will keep your energy levels stable until lunchtime. I hope you enjoy them and don’t be scared to experiment with different flavour combinations. All these dishes are incredibly easy to adapt to suit your taste and keep things interesting.
